Volunteers

Volunteering at the zoo is rewarding and inspiring, but it does take dedication. Volunteers need to apply and will be accepted into our volunteer program only after a successful interview and after fulfilling our minimum requirements.

We depend on our volunteers to help with the health and well being of our animals. Most volunteer activities involve helping with the tremendous amount of maintenance required by a zoo. Most volunteers also assist in our daily feeding and cleaning, but our full time staff always oversee all animal care. Often there is an opportunity for volunteers to assist in training and social time, as safety permits.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age and have health insurance.

Professional experience is required prior to having any contact with big cats.

Feel free to contact us for more information on our requirements to volunteer at the Monterey Zoo. For more information, please contact our educational coordinator at education@montereyzoo.org
